One of my favorite things about baking vegan is bringing something I've baked to a party. I try to stay under the radar, but someone always brings up the fact that what I've made is vegan. This is usually followed by a series of questions: "What's the difference between a vegan and a vegetarian?" "What makes a 'regular' [insert baked good here] not vegan?" "So these [baked goods] have no eggs, butter, or milk?" The inquiring party guest then gives me a skeptical, yet sympathetic look and takes a bite. This is the best part - the taste is followed by a smile and an encouraging series of nods. Sometimes it's just a look of disbelief.
It's weird to me to think that people don't believe vegan desserts can be as delicious or (dare I say it) even more delicious than desserts made with milk and eggs. But when I really think about it, I guess I used to be one of those people.
I believe that everyone deserves a treat. So whether you're vegan, have dairy allergies, or are just looking to try something new, I'm here to bake it.
